Finish Up

And for the finishing touches prior to taking back to Mainair for inspection. NOTE. DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE before inspection!!!

Don't forget all placards and to fill the engine gearbox.

Ignition switch now uses a 1 piece shroud. It is fixed to the seat frame with a bolt, and a monobolt. The monobolt will be done by Mainair on inspection.

Screen, pitot for ASI and hand throttle cover and handle

Engine top cover, exhaust protection cover and suspension labels

More placards. Bungee for engine cover and skirt, and around collar in skirt for long range tank filler. Overflow for radiator visible.

Check throttle splitter and choke cables for routing and retention on top of seat frame

I provided Mainair with a document that listed the areas I was concerned with pre inspection and these are listed here:

Mainair also asked me for feedback on the build, and on the manual which I sent to them. This is also copied here:

Hello Roger.

As I promised Jim, the following is a summary of the shortfalls of the Blade Kit build, as I found.

1. Needs section on how much to tighten fixings

2. Need to do a bolt audit as those required on the latest build do not match those on the pick list!

3. Prop tape missing for protecting monopole from tank

4. No araldite as mentioned in text as included

5. Fork stem VERY tight. Had to fettle top to fit steering bar snugly. Might be worth mentioning that the whole can be drilled in situ by turning steering, or externalaly on the bench

6. Front axle too long. 12mm washers missing. Had to fit those mentioned plus 2 more

7. How tight star washers on rear wheels

8. EMPHASISE spaces between wheel bearings. Yes I forgot first time around!

9. Disc oil pipe below carbs. Pipe clip screw pushing hard against engine casing. Turned it around to clear properly.

10. Medium split ring missing for security strap bolt.

11. Not enough large skiffy caps.

12. Not enough split pins

13. Which way to fit M4x12 for lord mounts, (you know the problem these gave in shearing, so I replaced with stainless)

14. Where to fit earth strap from engine to -> front lower monopole mount

15. Carb air filter fixing not consistent with diagram/parts

16. Seat frame - bk-210 but what about other side. Text doen't say this is on another dwg

17. Not enough 3/8" thin washers

18. Routing of electrics - around starter etc not mentioned

19. dwg bk-224 mentions 2 1/8" saddles. Took me a while to realise these didn't exist

20. Keel orientation. Rear suspension stubs angle down, as single hole at front of keel mentioned in text is in fact a hole top/bottom so can't be used to orientate

21. Aralditing stub - use horizontal hole to locate stub and bolt through, then drill out vertical hole using pilot holes top/bottom. Insures everything lines up, but can be 1 or 2 degrees out using this method so I checked by eye to get it correct.

22. How tight front shock absorber fixings

23. Electrical patch box 90 degrees out for electric start

24. Hand throttle. Had to use more washers on the cable attachment to get good fit, and took a while to work out what the inserts were

25. Very little play in hand throttle cable length so adjuster in throttle assemble left all the way in

26. Which clips to use on fuel pipe and where

27. Fuel tap extension bracket not mentioned or included

28. Foot throttle. Cable runs through center of return spring. Wind it around. Took a while to work that out from the drawing

29. How to bend aluminium inserts for skirt to pod attachment

30. Radiator parts/fixings/drawings wrong

31. Small rad. Lower pipe clearing exhaust bracket. Mention that EGT probe will foul if too far away

32. Rad hose drawings do not match parts supplied

33. Main key start switch. Mention leave room beteen body and pod side to slot throttle cable, electric cable into.

34. Instrument fixings missing

35. Pod windscreen fixings missing and a little text on how to fit them would be useful

36. Only one map pocket, and how to fix them

37. No monopole padded cover, or front strut protector
