License Requirements

The license requirements for a much coveted PPL(G) have been relaxed to harmonise them with microlights as opposed to the new JAA regulations. This has meant a relaxed medical, more specific theory and more importantly for me recognition for time served on the trike. What this means is that as a minimum I need to do 10 hours dual training, and 10 hours solo training which includes two cross countries. I also only need to complete the gyro technical paper and Oral.

The biggest problem I felt would be that my feet were "wired" the wrong way around. By this I mean that in a trike, pushing the left foot forward will turn you right as it would in a go cart but 3 axis is the other way. Some said that the hands going in opposition to the way that you wanted to go would also be a problem, but I couldn't see this being so as the position is completely different. So, in a bid to rewire my brain, I started to virtually steer with my feet whilst driving the car to try and train them which way was which. This does seem to have worked as the first time on the rudder I did steer the right way! Had to think about it mind you!
