Day 31 Good day! Sunny, and not much wind. Unfortunately a Sunday, so there will be a low of pilots out! Early morning session and low level hops. Still trying to overcome an over-control problem in pitch causing a slow up and down. 45 minutes and getting better. And then slightly higher. Using a slight lighter grip, which seems to be helping. By now the airport was getting much busier. We tried a couple of times to get out for more training runs, but the volume of traffic made it unworkable, so we binned it until later in the day. Chris was now with me, and we were going to be training together one doing a run whilst the other backtracking. Chris started low, as he hadn't been for 6 months but soon got back into the swing. I think he should have been called "laser" Chris as is runs were absolutely straight and constant height. We both seemed to be progressing about the same, and were soon onto higher hops the length of the runway. Here's Chris on Miss Yellow Tail. And me on a slightly higher hop The more relaxed grip has helped a lot. I found that I was trying to correct for small bumps in the air, which caused a pitching movement. After Roger said to just fly through them, calm was restored again. Light fading and low fuel so after one and a quarter hours it was time to call it a day. Brilliant is all I can say. The over pitching is not fully sorted, but much better. The change to lighter grip and not trying to correct for small bumps in the air has certainly helped. Here's hoping for good weather tomorrow. Good session.... |
